v5 starters on four backends
We rebuilt Nextbase into eight v5 starters this month. Choose Next.js or TanStack for the app, then Supabase, Convex, PlanetScale or Cloudflare D1 for the data. Most starters reached parity with Ultimate by the end of July.
Ultimate, Pro and Essential are now archived. They received a final round of small cleanups on July 1. New work continues in v5.
#What came over from Ultimate
I used Ultimate as the feature checklist. The PlanetScale build shows what parity includes:
- Auth with account security, workspaces and invitations
- Projects with comments and notifications
- Feedback board and roadmap
- Stripe billing, storage and realtime
- AI features with metered usage, email providers and telemetry
- Marketing pages and admin account management

- The Next.js + Supabase starter continues the Ultimate codebase directly
- Next.js + PlanetScale uses Better Auth for auth, workspaces, invitations and Stripe billing
- Both Cloudflare D1 starters (Next.js and TanStack) reached Ultimate parity on D1
- TanStack + Convex keeps projects, billing, the API, AI and public content in Convex
- Next.js + Convex initially read marketing content directly from Convex
- Early work on TanStack + PlanetScale covered tenant isolation
